Technology Enhances Home Security: Kwikset Introduces UNITE™ for Multifamily Housing

In the rapidly evolving landscape of home security, technological advancements play a pivotal role in enhancing safety and security for residents. Innovations such as smart locks and comprehensive security systems are transforming how we protect our homes and loved ones. Modern home security technology has evolved far beyond traditional lock-and-key mechanisms, with smart devices and systems available to deter intruders, monitor activities, and provide real-time alerts. These advancements not only strengthen security but also offer unparalleled convenience and peace of mind.

One notable advancement is the development of electronic access control (EAC) systems, which replace traditional keys with electronic credentials like key cards, fobs, or smartphones. This shift simplifies access management and enhances security by reducing the risk of lost or duplicated keys. EAC systems can also integrate with other security measures, such as surveillance cameras and alarm systems, creating a comprehensive security ecosystem.

Supporting these claims, a 2022 report from MarketsandMarkets forecasts that the global smart home market is expected to grow from $79.90 billion in 2020 to $313.95 billion by 2026, driven by the increasing need for safety, security, and convenience. Additionally, a 2021 survey by Statista found that 41% of U.S. households had at least one smart home device, with security cameras and smart locks being among the most popular.

Kwikset Launches UNITE™

In line with these technological innovations, Kwikset has introduced UNITE™, its first electronic access control solution designed specifically for multifamily housing. This launch represents a significant expansion for Kwikset into the multifamily housing sector, building on its extensive experience in the single-family residential market.

Kwikset's new UNITE EAC solution offers multifamily property managers and owners several advantages. The electronic system is designed to simplify property management, reduce the time and costs associated with key management, and potentially increase profits. Additionally, UNITE meets the growing demand from renters and owners for technologically advanced living experiences by incorporating features like Bluetooth technology and RFID, which are highly sought after in today's market.

UNITE benefits from Kwikset’s established presence in the multifamily housing market through its mechanical lock business, providing valuable insights into the specific needs and challenges of the sector. This new solution also builds on Kwikset’s proven track record with electronic locking solutions in the single-family residential market.

The Potential of the UNITE System

The UNITE system is designed primarily for multifamily property managers and owners but also serves secondary markets, including builders, developers, hardware dealers, wholesale distributors, general contractors, LV systems integrators, and third-party software providers. The solution integrates a cloud-based platform, combining a web portal and mobile app to create an intuitive security tool. This system adapts to the roles and requirements of various users, from property managers to residents, without compromising on safety or ease of use.

UNITE is particularly suited to various property types, including Class A high-rise urban and Class B garden-style suburban properties. Both new construction and retrofit markets present substantial opportunities for the new smart lock unit.

Collaborating for Progress

In developing the UNITE platform, Kwikset collaborated with partner companies such as DHI Communities, AMLI, Crescent Communities, and Woodfield. These companies played critical roles throughout the development cycle, offering feedback on existing platforms, suggestions for enhancements, design input, and future participation in beta testing.

Kwikset's UNITE will be available through professional channel distributors and dealers on August 28, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of multifamily housing security solutions.
