New research reveals 36% of budding entrepreneurs rank being their own boss as top priority
A new wave of aspiring entrepreneurs across the UK are prioritising wellness and personal fulfilment over traditional financial goals.
These are among the key findings of recent research, commissioned by the AI-driven business planning enterprise, Venture Planner, which polled the views of 2,000 people across the UK, who had previously considered starting their own business, either on their own or in partnership with others.
Entrepreneurs Value Freedom
Venture Planner’s research revealed that more than a third (36%) of the UK’s prospective business owners rank ‘the freedom to be their own boss’ among factors motivating them to become an entrepreneur, surpassing even the desire for financial independence or wealth, which was referenced by 31%.
In addition, over a quarter (26%) of prospective entrepreneurs referenced ‘the chance to work on my passion; every day’ as one of the core factors driving their entrepreneurship, while 20% pointed to personal growth and self-improvement. Additionally, 33% of business dreamers said that if they were to succeed as an entrepreneur, working on something they passionately believed in would be their primary measure of success.
Business Aligned with Personal Values
The study reveals that nearly half of the respondents (48%), who are likely to set up a new business in a different market sector, dream of transitioning to a sector that aligns with their personal interests, while 41% aim to achieve a better work-life balance, and 33% want to move to a sector they find more fulfilling.
Alex Clansey, co-founder and CEO of Venture Planner, comments: "This data paints an inspiring picture of the modern entrepreneur. It's not just about financial independence anymore; it's about finding personal fulfilment and improving overall wellness through their work."
Collaboration of Entrepreneurs
The survey also highlights that despite their reputation for going it alone, prospective entrepreneurs are often keen to tap into the help and advice of others as they look to make their business dream a reality. One third of budding business owners (33%) say they would prefer to start their business with others.
Nicola McKenzie, co-founder of Venture Planner, adds: "We're seeing a shift in entrepreneurial goals. People are increasingly looking for careers that bring them joy and satisfaction. Venture Planner is designed to empower these individuals by simplifying the business planning process and providing the necessary support to turn their ideas into reality."
